January 1st, 2009 at 10:57 am
LOL Very nice!! :) I’m an on-location kinda girl, so no studio for me. I think you’re totally right- a studio isn’t meant for every photographer. I can’t wait for today’s FTC! Kevin Kubota is amazing and we’re both Oregonians- YAY!

I love the video, Dane! You made me laugh and gave me great info to think about. I’m with Meredith on the prestige vs. success comparison – it’s so important to know the difference. In my business and life, I don’t want to merely feel special but to have success because I am special.
Happy New Year!

Hey Dane,
You obviously have put your heart & soul into this and it totally shows. I’m very eager to see how viral this spreads globally as you continue to help photographers of all walks hone in on & develop their talent and their person.
Thank you for sharing and sacrificing so much of you for the greater good of all – cheers!

I go back and forth about this, on the one hand it would be nice to control my shooting environment all the time, but on the other hand I think my best images are those taken in my clients homes or on location. BTW, the naked stuff is hilarious, your very brave!

Thanks so much for the very helpful coaching with Kevin tonight!! I personally learned quite a bit and will definitely consider joining for the regular coachings.

Great job my friend. Keep up the great work. The computer was in the way, so I couldn’t tell. Boxers or briefs? :)

I just blogged about you!
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:29 pm
I saw the link posted on facebook by Ron Dawson. I was curious so I click on it. Too Awesome!! Gosh that was good! I liked it so much I ordered your book:) I’m a videographer, not photographer, but I’m sure a lot of the info will apply to either industry.
January 3rd, 2009 at 10:56 pm
@Ron Dawson, Commando!!!
@Christine Tremoulet, Dane + anyone = awesome… But thanks for the compliment!
@Jake Easley and Meredith Williams, There are so many great outakes, maybe once we get going we can make an outake reel.

Hey Dane,
Great job on the video, but the way it comes across to me is that you are saying that having a space is just for prestige and its not needed. I completely disagree with you. If you are a photographer that only wants to shoot a hand full of weddings then working from home is perfect, but for a photographer that wants to shoot weddings, families and kids and shoot a lot of them, you totally need a space. Not for Prestige, but for success. I can’t imagine working out of my home with the amount of business we are doing right now.
Great video and keep up the good work.

Hey Brody,
Thanks for the affirmation man. Actually, you may have misunderstood what I was saying.
Like I said in the video, for some, a commercial based studio is critical to success. But, it’s when folks mix up success with prestige, that they can get themselves into trouble. It sounds like in your case, you got the order right. Stoked for you!

After watching it couple of times, it has become more clear to me. I think I just needed to open my mind a bit more to what you really were saying. Some photographers get a space to make themselves feel legit, while others get the space because their business cannot grow any further without it.
Thanks
Brody

Good stuff my friend…still not sure about the shot in the woods though!? I would have to say that our studio space was a great investment and extension of our brand. It took many years to get to that point though! In these crazy times we have to watch what we are doing and continue to innovate!

Hey Dane! Great work here! Can’t wait for more and more. Fast track is awesome and the video was great!
January 5th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
“Why is this line so hard for me?… Because you’re naked.” That’s classic stuff, Dane! Oh yeah, the content was excellent too, well done!
January 11th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Thanks for setting this up Dane. You were my first big inspiration when I made the decision to start my own photography business and it’s great to see you putting out these new video shorts. I met you a couple of weeks ago at church and hopefully I’ll see you again soon so I can thank you for this in person!
