Thanks for the information, The thing I love about your information that either its a confirmation that my thoughts are not completley insane or gives me something additional to think about and alot of times just knowing that my ideas are not out of the box is a great confidence builder as I build my business. I do so greatly appreciate this labor of love

I agree, although, an outsourcing company has to earn trust. Taking the first step as the photographer and sending it out to them allows them to do just that. Worst case? You hate what they do and move on to someone else. Best case? You have more time to LIVE and provide faster turnaround to your clients. :)

thanks Dane, another great nugget! can’t wait for the call with Me Ra Koh this afternoon… THANK YOU for giving!

I have to say, I already love it. It’s fun and interesting. Thank you.

I’m a BRAND new photographer. So while outsourcing may not be one of my needs now it’s so helpful to hear what things I may need to look into later on. It’s sort of like being given a roadmap right from the get go. Takes the “fear of the unknown” down a notch. ;)
Thanks for taking the time to put these together. I ordered your book yesterday and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I wish I had the extra $ to register for your forums but I need to start bringing in a little $ first. ;)
Thanks so much!

So true, Dane. But my favorite is the singing at the END. MORE SINGING NEXT TIME!!!

Here is what I realized: In professional photography, knowing how to color-correct and retouch an image is like knowing your ABC’s. EVERY professional photographer knows their ABC’s. The alphabet DOES NOT require *your* personal touch. You do not sell yourself to your clients with “Hey I’m the best damn zit & eyebag photoshopper you’ll ever meet, so hire me!!!” NO!!! Red flag!
YOU only need to do the few things that make your business unique- CONNECT, CLICK, CHOOSE… You *connect* with your clients personally, because your character / personality is unique. You *click* the shutter because DUH, your artistic vision is unique. And lastly but definitely not least, you *choose* WHO you trust to do other things. You choose a 2nd shooter who has a similar personality and/or shooting style. You choose a photo retouching service, album designer, etc. etc. who are also on the same page. Just because you let someone else take over a task, doesn’t mean you had no say in WHO got the job, and what they deliver.
For all you know, there are probably people out there who are BETTER than you at many things, and you can pay them a lot less than your own TIME is costing you!
Okay I’ve probably made my point by now haha…

loved this! i’m finally, finally moving toward outsourcing my editing, and am stoked.
January 8th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
This was a great and useful piece of information that a lot of people will find to be invaluable.

Great response and insight on a topic I lot of photographers (this one included) struggle with. For me the real question I’d like to hear more about is HOW do you learn to build trust with someone to edit your work without having to try out a dozen different potential solutions before you find the right fit?
January 9th, 2009 at 7:12 am
Great follow up question Jay. That is precisely the kind of question we’ll address in Fast Track Coaching. I hope you will join us.
